“Soup to Nuts”
In honor of this month’s sports “holiday,” I thought I’d talk about a few commercial food shoots I’ve done for Super Bowl and football promotions.
Kicking it off is a cozy threesome of soups I shot for Snapware, recipes by one of my favorite chefs, the inimitable Emeril Lagasse. Soups are tricky…the ingredients like to separate, they tend to congeal as they sit and cool off and it can be difficult to see the ingredients. So, often, the simpler the setting, the better. And we had to work quickly.
Next up is a series of recipes for Silk Milk’s Sideline Meat campaign – an effort to get folks to include some yummy, plant-based recipes in their football snack spread. Chef Candice Kumai developed the recipes, and she faces off against a trio of pro football players to see how they like them. It’s a fun one, give it a look.
For both of these efforts, I was lucky enough to work with Kitchen Consultants and Chef Jill Houk, who both prepared the food and provided her fabulous styling skills to make everything look it’s most appetizing.
I’ve included links to the recipes throughout, so give ’em a try for yourself and let me know what you think!
And, yes, I did try everything. It’s a difficult part of the job, but, someone’s gotta do it.
Chef Jill found table linens that matched Snapware’s logo colors, so we shot all of the soups on this palette. We contrasted the colors/patterns with a simple white-on-white place-setting, making the soups and their ingredients really pop out at the viewer, even this Potato Soup with Bacon and Cheddar.
As part of the shoot, we were also looking to highlight some of Snapware’s products, along with the soups. This one is Simple Chicken Noodle Soup. We had fun with tweezers and the vermicelli noodles on this one!
And, here’s the tasty trio, again highlighting the product, as well. Along with my favorite of the bunch, the Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo…laissez les bons football rouler!
This was one of my personal favorite images from the shoot, and the client chose it…
…for their banner for the promotion. I love seeing the client bring their marketing together with the food styling and my images!
And, here we have some game-time fave’s made using Silk products. For this shoot, the client wanted key ingredients in each recipe to be included alongside the main dish. This one, Hearty Black Bean Chili, was crazy good. We all went back for seconds…and, maybe thirds…
Jalapeño Cauliflower Biscuits – a surprising hit!
This was a brilliant styling choice on Chef Jill’s part – those are three colors of…Carrots! alongside the celery in this Spicy Cashew Hummus. Love the pop of color and freshness it adds to the scene. And, the hummus? Yeah, leftovers came home with me.
Sometimes…simple is just what the food demands. We tried several options with this Sweet Potato Avocado Slider and, in the end, this nice, clean shot won out. Tayyy-stee!
How fun are these??!! Such a cute idea for any sport celebration. Chocolate Pumpkin Football Brownies...yes, you read that right. I really like the brand placement in this one.
If you try any of these, leave a comment below, I’d love to hear what you think! Go Panthers!
